C.R.O.P Hunger Walk
CROP Hunger Walks are interfaith community-wide hunger education and fundraising events. When begun in 1947, CROP was an acronym for the Christian Rural Outreach Program, with a mission to help Midwest farm families share their grain with the hungry in post-World War II Europe and Asia. The name is retained in historic tribute to that effort, although the scope and focus is, today, multi-faceted and world-wide. Hunger Walks are ecumenical, interfaith, multi-cultural, community events organized by congregations, and other groups, and donor sponsors designate a percentage of funds raised to their local hunger-fighting programs. CROP Hunger Walks are sponsored by Christian World Service (CWS) founded in 1946, as a cooperative ministry of 37 Christian denominations.
